The South Korean tech giant Samsung has unveiled its latest flagships S9 and S9+ at Mobile World Congress 2018. The company’s flagship phone incorporates the latest technology and is in direct competition with Apple’s flagship iPhone X. Also, for all the Samsung users who are looking forward to opting for an upgradation from Galaxy S8 to Galaxy S9, here’s a detailed comparison between both the phones.

Design:

Talking about the design of the latest flagship S9, the phone is quite similar to its predecessor Galaxy S8 but features minor upgrades.The latest Galaxy S9 comes with reduced bezels at the top as well as the bottom, and Samsung has hidden the iris scanner. Adding to the plus point, iris scanner and face recognition works together.The screen of the phone is turned darker, so as to unify it with rest of the body.Galaxy S9 comes with color options of Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Lilac Purple, and Titanium Grey while Galaxy S8 comes in Midnight Black and Maple Gold.

Price:

The price of latest Galaxy S9 smartphone starts at $719.99 (roughly Rs.46,600) in the United States and likely to be available in India by the month of March(pre-bookings are already open).The exact pricing details of the phone in India is yet to be revealed at the Samsung launch event in the country.

Earlier, Samsung had launched the Galaxy S8 in India at Rs. 57,900 and in the United States around $720.

Specifications:

The Samsung’s latest flagship Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8-inch QHD+ Curved Super AMOLED display with an 18.5:9 display aspect ratio and 1440×2960 screen resolution. It works on Android 8.0 Oreo. Talking about the hardware, the phone is powered by a 10nm 64-bit octa-core SoC along with 4GB of RAM. The best thing about the phone is camera/optical quality. The company has made quite a few improvements in this phone that gives it an upper hand over other phones available in the market. The Galaxy S9 boasts a SuperSpeed Dual Pixel 12-megapixel autofocus f/1.5-f/2.4 sensor with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization).The phone comes with an 8MP front shooter just like its predecessor. The phone comes with 64/128/256GB storage variants and is expandable up to 400GB via microSD card.

It features IP68 water + dust resistance as well. Connectivity options available in the phone includes: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB type-C, NFC, Location (GPS, Galileo, Glonass, BeiDou), etc. The Galaxy S9 comes with a powerful 3000mAh battery. In terms of dimensions and measurements, it measures 147.7×68.7×8.5mm and weighs 163 grams.

Samsung Galaxy S8

While talking about the specs of the Galaxy S8 which was released last year, it comes with a 5.8-inch bezel-less ‘Infinity Display’ with a 1440×2960 pixels screen resolution. During the time of launch, it was running on Android 7.0 but recently the company has rolled out updates for the Android 8.0. In India, the phone was powered by an Exynos 8895 SoC chipset along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage which was expandable up to 256 GB via microSD card.While in some countries the Galaxy S8 launched was powered with Snapdragon 835 SoC (2.3GHz Quad + 1.7GHz Quad).

Talking about the camera quality, Galaxy S8 comes with a 12MP ‘Dual Pixel’ rear camera with features like OIS and a f/1.7 aperture and 8MP front shooter. The connectivity options available include Wi-Fi,GPS,Bluetooth,NFC, 3G and 4G. The phone is backed up with a 3000mAh non-removable battery and measures 148.90×68.10×8.00 and weighs 155.00 grams.

Notable Changes:

The new Galaxy S9 comes with a variable rear aperture, first of the technology of its kind, which gives an option for better low light picture capture. The phone offers Super Slo-Mo feature to record videos at 960 frames per second.The Galaxy S9 comes with intelligent features like Automatic Motion Detection, that detects movement in the frame and automatically begins to record-a bliss for shutterbugs.The phone also boasts AR Emoji to take on Apple’s Animoji.A virtual avatar mode that allows the user to take a 3D picture and turn it into a customized emoji. As focused by the company, the final camera related improvement revolves around the introduction of Bixby Vision in the camera app that offers some exciting features like live translation,the ability to recognise the buildings and other places in a frame, and even look at the food in your frame and provide information like the amount of calories in the meal-so gym freaks get ready to make your list of calorie intake !

Another notable change is the availability of the dual speakers in the latest phone which are tuned by AKG Acoustics. The latest phone comes with downwards firing speaker and the earpiece doubling up as the other channel. Consequently, this setup results in a sound that’s 1.4 times louder than the predecessor Galaxy S8.
