LinkedIn has sold SlideShare to Scribd, 8 years after acquiring it.

LinkedIn as we all know is the number 1 place to expand your network and grow your professional career.SlideShare is a site or a feature that lets you upload your presentations, infographics, word document, etc on it.

Scribd is an app that has the world’s largest collection of books, audiobooks, study guides, business templates, and more.

As per the announcement, Scribd will take over SlideShare from 24th September. Till then it will function under LinkedIn.

This is a huge acquisition by Scribd because SlideShare has 100million active users. Scribd is a paid service. But don’t worry it won’t ask any money for your SlideShare files. SlideShare is completely free like before. You can’t use your SlideShare account to access the Scribd library too.

Taking a few points from the officials of both sides. LinkedIn has few words to say,

“LinkedIn acquired SlideShare in May 2012 at a time when it was becoming clear that professionals were using LinkedIn for more than making professional connections.

Over the last eight years, the SlideShare team, product, and community have helped shape the content experience on LinkedIn.

We’ve incorporated the ability to upload, share, and discuss documents on LinkedIn.”

Trip Adler, co-founder, and CEO of Scribd offers the following statement

“Our acquisition of SlideShare is a major step towards creating the world’s largest digital library. It allows us to continue diversifying our offering while driving even more readers to the books, audiobooks, magazines, and other professionally published works in our digital library.”

He also added that “We have a lot of experience with a product like this, both the technology stack and with users uploading content. We’re in a good position to make SlideShare really successful.”

Scribd and SlideShare both started around the same time in 2006 and Adler says there have been a lot of similarities between them.

All the SlideShare users will have to still use the SlideShare app only, which they are using. The only difference is the owner of this app has changed. Rest all is literally the same.
