In its latest update, Telegram is now, bringing the app to version 5.8. We saw the last few releases to be mainly focused on privacy, this update is centered around communicating with people nearby and adding contacts without having their phone numbers.
Here’s the changelog:
- Add any users to contacts, even if their phone numbers are not visible
- Go to Contacts > Add People Nearby to see and add people who also have this section open
- Host local communities by creating location-based group chats
- Transfer ownership of groups and channels by granting full rights to another admin. Useful when switching jobs or if you just want to retire as a creator
- Toggle message previews for specific chats, and use Search and ‘Delete All’ tools in Notification Exceptions
Telegram from now onwards will allow transferring your administrator privileges to another member of a group. Notifications have also received a small update.
However, those using iOS devices are getting two additional features. Siri Shortcuts can now be used to directly contact people without the need to open the app. The Telegram app also shows theme previews as you select them. And last but not the least; you will be getting six custom apps that had been previously available on the discontinued Telegram X.
