WhatsApp is one of the biggest messaging platforms in the world, with billions of messages being sent every day.  Over the last several weeks, WhatsApp has been testing and bringing new features to its platform on a regular basis. Group Descriptions, WhatsApp Business, deleting messages and more. WhatsApp considers spam and forwarded messages a big problem, and WhatsApp seems to have a plan to fight it now. WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature to fight the spam messaging.

Now WhatsApp will notify if user receives forwarded message:

Android beta version 2.18.179 has been updated with a new feature that labels forwarded messages. This feature will be particularly helpful in classifying forwards, and taking on the fake news and information dissemination problem that brings down the reputation of the application. There will be a “forwarded” label on messages when the sender forwards a message. This will help differentiate between messages actually typed out and forwarded as received.

It works for text and media, which includes photos and videos. the tag only appears when a message has been actually forwarded using the ‘forward’ button when you highlight the received message. Simply copying the message and pasting it into another chat does not show the ‘forwarded’ tag. However, forwards can be sent to multiple contacts in one go, while copying and pasting a message can only be sent to one contact at a time.

Users can join the beta program on Google Play Store for WhatsApp, and the latest features in testing, including ‘Forwarded label’ will be available for them.
