Everyone wished that they could do just more than running android apps. CodeWeavers announced the stable release of the Wine 3.0 for Android that enables you to run Windows apps on your Android device. Until now, Wine allows users to run Windows apps on Linux and other Unix-like OS.

Wine 3.0, expected to work better with x86 Android devices rather than those who are powered by ARM processors. Unfortunately, devices powered by ARM processor, will not be able to enjoy the full stack of apps that were ported to Windows RT.

With the ability extending to smartphones, you can run Windows 7 interface on either Google Pixel or OnePlus 5T. As Wine says, this release represents a year of development effort and over 6,000 individual changes. If you simply like your smartphone interface look like your office computer, you just need to get the Wine 3.0 Installers from here and download the stable build APK. Once you are done with that you’ll get audio and basic graphics, but not Direct3D, which many programs, especially games, need to use. However, Direct3D 10 and 11 support will hopefully be launched within the upcoming years.

However, the fact that it is a relatively new release, there are several major limitations with Wine on the Android Platform right now. As we know Windows is not compatible with ARM architecture till date, Wine has to use an open source QEMU to emulate x86 instructions. A QEMU does CPU emulation for user-level processes, allowing applications compiled for one architecture to run on another. Wine is only a compatibility layer and not a full-blown emulator, so you’ll need an x86 Android device to take full advantage of it (Chromebooks, Intel-based Android tablets.)

Ubuntu users can unwrap the latest release of Wine on your system by adding the official Wine repo. The free and open source compatibility layer, Wine lets you run Windows applications on Linux and macOS too.

If in case you would like to run android on Windows platform then Droid4X can be a useful app for you.
