The most speculated Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is here (We mean in China). Just like the leaks and rumours, these smartphones offer exact specifications and design. These devices come with different set of storage and RAM options and here are the complete details of the offers and listings. By the way, the device goes on sale in China from 12th December.

Xiaomi Redmi 5: This specific model comes in two options, the 2 GB RAM and 16 GB onboard flash storage and 3 GB RAM and 32 GB onboard flash storage. These models are priced at CNY 799 and CNY 899, which roughly translates for ₹7,799 and 8,799 respectively.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus: This model gets an upgrade for the basic model. The most affordable variant comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB onboard flash storage priced at CNY 999 (₹9,799) and the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB onboard flash storage retails at CNY 1299 (₹12,799).

For the first time, Xiaomi is offering a complementary TPU protection inside the retail package.

Enough of the extra clutter, let’s talk about the actual tech specifications of these devices.

To start with the most affordable of the lot, the Xiaomi Redmi 5. The device features a 5.77-inch edge to edge bezel-less 18:9 aspect ratio display, protected by 2.5D curved tempered glass on the top. The resolution offered on the panel is of HD+ quality with 1440x720p pixels resolution. This display is driven by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 Octa-core Mobile Solution, paired with 2 GB or 3 GB LPDDR3 RAM with 16 GB or 32 GB onboard flash storage. The device runs on a 3300 mAh Li-ion sealed battery with normal charging capability via micro USB port.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus offers a slightly bigger and better 5.99-inch edge to edge bezel-less 18:9 aspect ratio display, protected by 2.5D curved tempered glass. In terms of processor, the device gets an upgrade here. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core processor, which is a toned down version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Processor, so, one can expect butter smooth user experience with great thermal efficiency. This processor is paired with 3 GB or 4 GB RAM and 32 or 64 GB onboard flash storage. The device houses a bigger 4000 mAh Li-ion battery with normal charging capability.

The remaining features remain the same for Redmi 5 as well as the Redmi 5 Plus. Both devices do have a dedicated micro SD card (up to 128 GB) with dual nano-SIM card slot with 4G LTE and VoLte capability on both the slots. Like all the other Redmi smartphones, the fingeprint scanner is located on the back side. These will be the first Redmi branded smartphones to use onscreen navigation keys.

In terms of camera, the 12 MP camera and a 5 MP camera on the front remains the same. The 12 MP main camera is now paired with a dual tone dual LED flash and the 1.25-micron pixel size should help you to capture good-looking shots. The interesting change is the fact that, the selfie camera now as its own flash unit, or soft-light, which should change the way that you capture selfie in the low lightening condition. The video recording is limited to 1080p up to 30 frames per second.

In terms of operating system, these devices run on MiUi 9, based on Android Nougat and expected to receive Oreo update in the near future.

In terms of availability, there is no official announcement regarding the Indian launch, however, the company might bring in these devices in early January with a similar price tag.
