Xiaomi India has launched a new “Desh Ka Smartphone” AKA, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A in India. The smartphone will be available in India for just ₹4,999 for the 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage and ₹6,999 for the 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage variant. The smartphone will be available via Mi.com, Mi Home, and Flipkart from December 7th.

Just like the Redmi 4A, the Redmi 5A offers a metallic finish in Gold, Dark Grey, and Rose Gold colors. However, even though the device offers polycarbonate design, the battery is non-user replaceable. The design and aesthetics are somewhat similar to that of the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite (even the tech specifications). Here are the complete details on the actual tech specifications.

Just like most of the entry-level smartphones, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is equipped with a 5.0-inch 720p HD IPS LCD screen with 16:9 aspect ratio, protected by 2.5D curved tempered glass on the top. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 Quad-core SoC, paired with either 2 GB or 3 GB LPDDR3 RAM with 16 GB or 32 GB onboard flash storage. The company hasn’t made any shortcut what so ever, in fact, this device does offer an infrared blaster, which can be used as the universal remote.

These specifications are pretty much superior in comparison with the smartphones like Nokia 2, Moto C Plus and the Samsung Galaxy J2, which retails in India for ₹6,999.

In terms of connectivity, the smartphone offers dual nano-SIM card slots with 4G LTE and VoLte capability on both the slots. This time, the brand has opted for a dedicated micro SD card slot, which can read SD cards up to 128 GB. So, you can use the dual SIM cards with the SD card without any jugaad.

Coming to the camera capability, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 offers a 13 MP main camera with a single tone single LED flash with F/2.2 aperture. The main camera does offer premium features like PDAF and Beautification. The 5 MP front-facing selfie camera does the job well with 720p video recording capability.

With respect to operating system, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A runs on MiUi 9 based on Android Oreo and expected to receive Nougat update in the near future. Finally, the smartphone packs a best-in-class 3000 mAh Li-ion battery, which can last for a complete day with 7 hours of video playback and 21 hours of music playback on a single charge.

Originally, the 2 GB + 16 GB model is priced at ₹5,999, as Xiaomi India is celebrating the number one smartphone position in India, the company is giving back almost 500 crores by reducing the smartphone price to ₹4,999, which attracts the many smartphone enthusiasts, who are looking to buy a smartphone for the first time.
