Its time of the year (December), where most of the smartphone makers have come up with the best smartphones at every price point. Now your time to pick the best of both the worlds. The smartphones which caught our attention in the recent time are the Xiaomi Redmi 5A and the Micromax Bharat 5. If you are looking for a new Android smartphone and finally planning to break the feature phones barriers, these smartphones do offer a great value for money. Both devices do have their own shortcomings, but we have nothing to complain what so ever.

To start with the pricing, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A offers is priced at ₹4,999 for the entry-level model and the Micromax Bharat 5 retails for ₹5,555. So, there is a ₹556 rupees price difference and for that difference, there are a lot of things that are at stake. So, here are the complete details on these smartphones to make your next purchase easy.

Design: The design aspect of the smartphones is a bit similar. Both smartphones offer a plastic unibody design and we are not the fan of that material. However, at this price tag, the plastic unibody is awesome. The design factor of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A offers an overall better design language. So, whatever the smartphone you choose, you will not be disappointed what so ever. Though we like the metallic paint on the smartphone is appreciatable. If you are into design, both devices will offer similar design and will not disappoint you want so ever.

Display: The Xiaomi Redmi 5A offers a 5.0-inch HD 720p IPS LCD touch display protected by 2.5D Curved tempered glass on the top. The Micromax Bharat 5 offers a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with similar 720p IPS LCD screen with 2.5D curved tempered glass on the top. Due to a slightly smaller screen on the Redmi 5A, the smartphone offers more pixels per inch compared to the Bharat 5. If you are into watching movies and stuff, then you will appreciate the larger 5.2-inch display, but, if you like a compact smartphone, then Xiaomi Redmi 5A is the one.

Processor: This is the part where these two smartphones are a universe apart. The Micromax Bharat 5 is powered by an entry-level MediaTek Mt6737 Quad-core SoC, and the Xiaomi Redmi 5A is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 Quad-core processor. Though both smartphones are powered by a quad-core processor, the Snapdragon 425 offers much better CPU and GPU performance, in fact, the MediaTek powered smartphones will have a lot of problems when it comes to software update (due to kernel source code. So, clearly, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A takes the lead.

RAM and Storage: I don’t want to say it, but, for the price tag of ₹4,999 the Xiaomi Redmi 5A nails it. The smartphone offers 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 16 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot (up to 128 GB). On the other hand, the Micromax Bharat 5 offers 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot. Considering the fact that, the phone offers HD display 1 GB RAM is something that will be not sufficient. Even for the day to day users, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A is a get to go smartphone, as it features X2 amount of RAM compared to Micromax Bharat 5. So, with respect storage, both smartphones are head to head. However, on to the RAM perspective, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A evolves as a true champion.

Connectivity: This is something less interesting, like most of the smartphones (expect the Pixel and Apple), there smartphones offers dual nano-SIM card slot with 4G LTE and VoLte capability on both the slots. Other standard features like Analogue FM Radio, 3.5 mm headphone jack, WiFi, WiFi Hotspot, and Bluetooth 4.2 are also offered from both manufacturer. So, with respect to connectivity, both devices are in line and its a tie.

Camera: Once again, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A evolves as a true champion. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A packs a 13 MP rear-facing camera with F/2.2 aperture, PDAF and 1080p video recording capability. For the selfie camera, the smartphone offers a 5 MP selfie shooter with F/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording capability. The Micromax Bharat 5 offers a typical entry level camera setup with a 5 MP camera on the front and 5 MP camera on the back. So, at least on the paper, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A takes a lead. if you are a guy who is planning to use a lot of social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat, then Xiaomi Redmi 5A.

Operating system: Xiaomi’s MiUi is a true addiction, as a matter of fact, we have been using the same for the past 3 years. Be it the timely security updates and regular updates, Xiaomi does offer a lot of back-end support. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A runs on the latest MiUi 9 based on Android Nougat and is speculated to receive Oreo update down the lane. On the other hand, the Micromax Bharat 5 also runs on Android Nougat with custom UI, but there is no information on the software updates what so ever. So, once again the Redmi 5A takes the lead.

Battery: The Micromax has done a great job this time, in fact, the Micromax Bharat 5 offer a mammoth 5000 mAh sealed battery with power bank facility (This device can be used to charge other smart gadgets via OTG cable). However, the device does not support fast charging and take more than 3 hours to completely charge. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A does offer pretty decent 3000 mAh battery, however, when it is compared to the Micromax’s offering, this is nothing. If you are a battery guy, who hates to charge the smartphone on daily basis, then Micromax Bharat 5 is the right choice.

Climax: So, to sum it up, if you are into a larger screen and bigger battery, then go with the Micromax Bharat 5. However, for all the other things (operating system, camera, RAM, user experience) Xiaomi Redmi 5A is a tailor-made smartphone for the first time smartphone buyers.
