Xiaomi introduced the new 17:9 aspect ratio screen on the original Xiaomi Mi MIX, and thereafter many smartphones OMEs including Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, LG, HTC, and Google have launched a smartphone with newer 18:9 aspect ratio. As a matter of fact, the first smartphone from Xiaomi to feature this new aspect ratio is the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2.

However, as Xiaomi cant reach the mass audience with the premium flagship smartphone, the company is planning to incorporate the new aspect ration screen in the upcoming mid-tier smartphones, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A. Here are the alleged specifications list for the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5A.

As the Redmi Note 5A will be a budget-oriented smartphone, one can expect this device to be priced at much lower priced tag than that of the Redmi Note 5.

Starting with the Redmi Note 5, the device is expected to offer a 5.9-inch FHD+ IPS LCD screen with 18:9 aspect ratio screen with narrow bezels around the corner. With respect to processor, the device will be powered by either MediaTek Helio X25 SoC or Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC depending on the market, paired with either 3 GB or 4 GB LPDDR3 RAM with 32 GB or 64 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot.

In terms of camera capability, the device is likely to offer dual rear-camera setup. The implementation of this dual camera setup will be something similar to that of the Xiaomi Mi A1 (dual RGB sensor with one wide angle lens and a telephoto lens) which offer X2 optical zooming capability, 4K video recording capability and portrait mode with live bokeh effect.

In terms of battery, the device will offer a 4000 mAh battery with fast charging capability via USB type C port. As usual, the device will be powered by MiUi version 9, based on Android Nougat with an expected update to Android Oreo in the near future.

On the other hand, the Redmi Note 5A will be powered by either MediaTek Helio P25 Octa-core SoC or Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC, paired with either 3 GB or 4 GB RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB onboard flash storage. The display for the Redmi Note 5A will measure 5.9-inch with a just HD+ resolution along with similar 18:9 aspect ratio screen.

In terms of camera, the Redmi Note 5A is most likely to offer a single rear camera with PDAF and 1080p video recording capability and a 5 MP front-facing shooter with similar capability. With respect to battery and Build Quality, the device is likely to remain the same with respect to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.

Coming to the pricing, the Redmi Note 5 will be priced at INR 13,000 for the entry-level model and INR 15,000 for the 4 GB variant and for the Redmi Note 5A, the device is expected to be priced at INR 11,000 and INR 13,000 for the 4 GB variant.
