With the surge in 4G adoptation, Relaince Jio has overtaken Huawei as the most favored 4G data card vendor in terms of market share in the second half of financial year 2016-2017. Market share of Jio has grown from 12% in first half to 77% in the second half due to free data sevices along with comparitevely lower prices of its Mi-Fi data cards. While Huawei market share has decreased from 33% in the first half to 10% in the second.
The Indian data cards market registered a 107 per cent jump in the second half of financial year 2016-2017 to 3.6 million over the first half in terms of units shipped. LTE/4G replaced 3G services as the most favored technology in the data card market. Data cards with data rate of 150 Mbps contributed around 92 per cent to overall shipments.
Mi-Fi devices are portable broadband devices which allow multiple users and mobile devices to share 3G or 4G mobile broadband Internet connection. Mi-Fi devices are the main reason for the growth in LTE technology in the second half.
Further, Mi-Fi devices are expected to show further rise in the future. As large number of user support with a single device will be the main reasons for the growth in Mi-Fi devices. Also with Mi-Fi we can anytime, anywhere connect data with affordable data plans.
