Reliance Jio is one of India’s leading telecom industry but still they had 87 million inactive users in the month of June and Airtel reported a 10% higher base of active users. The VLR of Jio and Airtel were same during that period.

Reliance Jio had a base of 397 million users and this was 28% higher than TRAI’s data. Kotak Institutional Equities asked about the 87 million Jio subscribers who were recharging their numbers but were not connected to Jio network.

They added that Jio has a high number of only sometimes-on SIM users on their network and it is intriguing as Jio SIM always works in the primary slot and it is same for dual-SIM mobile devices.

The numbers came after TRAI released the subscriber data and Airtel added 3.7 million subscribers in the month of June. The data revealed that Reliance Jio lost 2.1 million active users in the same month and Vodafone-Idea lost 3.7 million users.

Airtel is now serving 311 million customers, Reliance Jio and Vodafone-Idea have 310 and 273 million. Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal said that Bharti Airtel was at the top spot in the active mobile subscriber market in the month of June. The industry saw 2.8 million active subscriber churn in the month of June to touch 958 million after gaining 2.9 million active subscribers in the month of May.

The user base of the broadband has increased to 698.23 million from 683.7 million. TRAI data showed that the top five subscribers capture a market share of around 98.93%.
