Rajasthan, the most glorious state of India has so many things which act as a perfect charmer for tourists. Rajasthan has made its place in the world map for its celebrated pasts, history, monuments, forts, lakes, festivals, cultures, colours, food, and the list is endless. All these make tourists fall in love with every part of Rajasthan, and tourist from all over the world plan Rajasthan holidays to witness the beauty it possesses. The fame of Rajasthan and particularly of a few cities like Jaipur has reached such a height that even foreign celebrities have tied their knots here.  

Today, we are taking a different route and discussing some of the best UNESCO heritage sites that are spread all over the state. These sites are worth a visit and try to include a maximum of them in your tour.

Chittorgarh Fort

One of the most important World Heritage Sites in the state of Rajasthan, the fort is covered on a sprawling area of 280 hectares and is standing on the hill. It is said that the Mauryans built the fort back in 7 A.D century. The forts have 84 reservoirs which at that time held enough water for the 50,000 soldiers of the kingdom for 4 continuous years. There are total 7 gates in the fort and each of them is so high that enemies could not have seen or attacked the fort despite standing on a camel or even elephant. Though it has been ruined in several places, it doesn’t fail to amuse the tourists.

Ranthambore Fort

Another World Heritage Site of the state, Ranathambore Fort is located near Sawai Madhopur, a small town. The fort has been a witness to the glory and grandeur of the celebrated Chuahan Dynasty. The fort lies in the premises of Ranthambore National park. The park served as the hunting ground for the Maharajas of Jaipur before the independence. The fort is covered in an area of 4 square km and is divided into 2 parts. The western parts have temples and ancient monuments. The eastern part has a blooming wildlife with birds, small cats, langurs, leopard and rare to find the fishing cat.

Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh Fort comes under Rajsamand district and is a fortress of Mewar. The fort is built on a hill which is 1100 meter high and overlooks the Aravali range of hills. The grand fort was built back in the 15th century by the famous ruler Rana Kumbha. The fort kept on expanding until the 19th century. The folklore tales have that Maharaja used to burn huge lamps with 50 kgs ghee and 100 kgs cotton every single night so that the farmers working can see during the nights. One amazing fact about the fort is that it is the second largest wall in entire Asia.

These are just a few World Heritage sites and there are more and more. Rajasthan is one of the states that has a maximum number of heritage sites owing to its historical monuments and large forts.

  3. It is very informative history of Rajasthan & also Kaziranga National Park is recognized as a National Park in 1974 and later UNESCO declared as a world heritage site.
