Aadhar

Aviation Minister, Jayant Sinha has recently made an announcement. He said “In the next 90 to 120 days it might not be possible to book an air ticket without either providing some unique ID like PAN, Aadhar or passport. We are trying to see what else we can have as unique ID so that more people are covered”.

This means without having any identity card, passengers will not be able to book flight tickets. Now people will require PAN card, Aadhar card or passport for booking a flight. Sinha also stated that Aadhar card will not be mandatory as the identity card. People can show any identity as their identity card.

Before this announcement travelers were already asked to show their identity while entering in the airlines.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has also set up a digital traveler working group to provide suggestions on implementing the scheme. Within 30 days this group will be ready with whitepapers and comments from the stakeholders. These comments will be studied before finalizing the norms.
