According to the reports, Singapore Airlines wants to expand its network in India to acclaim growth in international passenger traffic. Earlier it has collaborated with Tata group to launch Vistara Airlines in 2015 and the airline is preparing for an international foray.

Singapore Airlines operates along with its group airlines Silk Air, Scoot and Tigerair. Overall, the group sees 175 flights each week to 15 cities in the country.

The airlines account for around 2.7% of India’s overseas traffic and is a dominant player in India-South East Asia and India-Australia markets. But the airlines wants to add more destinations to their basket.

Airlines is evaluating new routes from Singapore to Pune, Chandigarh and other cities. Besides air services between two countries are negotiated by governments that control frequencies and the number of destinations.

David Lim of Singapore Airlines, while announcing the launch of operations of the Airbus A350 aircraft to Mumbai said: “Singapore Airlines continually looks for opportunities to enhance travel experience of our Indian patrons”. When asked about the Air India privatisation, Lim said that he cannot comment on the speculation.
