Udan scheme

UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), the ambitious program of the central government which enables the common man to fly at a cheaper fare on the smaller routes, will have more flights from August.

Announcing this move, central minister for civil aviation, P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju said that the government will open bidding for the second round since August under the ambitious UDAN scheme. He also added that the official confirmation about the date and process will be made after discussing the views and amendments suggested by the stakeholders. According to the minister, government is working to make the process of participating in UDAN scheme and bidding more open and transparent, so that more airline companies can be a part of it.

Civil aviation ministry has called a meeting of stakeholders on June 7th. It will accept the list of suggested changes till June 9th. Also, Civil Aviation Secretary R.N. Choubey stated that the ministry is working on calling an interactive meet of the representatives of state governments and airline companies.

The main aim for RCS (Regional Connectivity Scheme) is to promote air travel among the middle class people as well as on regional routes to boost connectivity. In the first round, the government has partnered with Airline Allied Services (Alliance Air), SpiceJet, Turbo Megha Airways, Air Deccan and Air Odisha.
