On Sunday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi addressed the first meeting of a newly reconstituted Congress Working Committee (CWC)– the apex decision-making body of the party.
The new CWC has many new faces along with old ones. It is a blend of youth and experience constituting 51 members. There are 23 main members, 18 permanent invitees and 10 special invitees.
Gandhi in the meeting called Congress as the “voice of India” and also responsible of its “past and future”.
Randeep Sujrewala tweeted the important parts of the speeches made by CWC members. Sujrewala tweeted that Rahul Gandhi implored “Congressmen/women to rise and fight for India’s oppressed.”
Sujrewala tweeted, “Sh. Rahul Gandhi reminds the role of Congress as the voice of India as also its responsibility of present and future, as BJP attacks institutions, dalits, tribals, backwards, minorities & poor.”
Sujrewala tweeted Sonia Gandhi’s speech and wrote, “Mrs. Sonia Gandhi cautions about the rain of despair and fear heaped upon India’s deprived and poor. Points out that the rhetoric of PM Modi shows his desperation reflecting that reverse countdown of Modi govt has begun.”
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed the issue of the farmers and doubted BJP‘s claim of doubling farm income by 2022. Sujrewala tweeted, “Dr. Manmohan Singh points out that the claim of doubling farm income by 2022 will require an agri growth rate of 14%, which is nowhere in sight.”
The Lok Sabha elections are to be held in 2019 and Congress declared that it is ready to form alliances in order to defeat BJP.
