Hasan Minhaj, an American comedian, writer, actor, director, a producer, is best known for his Netflix Patriot Act and has won two Webby and Peabody awards for the same.
After the cancellation of the Patriot Act by Netflix after its run for six seasons, Minhaj will be returning to television with a recurring role in Apple’s Emmy-winning The Morning show.
Minhaj will be playing, Eric a charismatic and a rising star in the Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon drama, who joins The Morning Show team.
Season two returns with a cast led by Aniston (Alex Levy) and Witherspoon (Bradley Jackson) and includes Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pitman, Desean Terry, and Steve Carell.
Steve Carell, who played Mitch Kessler, the male anchor who got fired from the show due to a sexual harassment scandal, will be returning to the show. Steve Carell had initially signed a year contract and was not to return for season 2.
The plot of The Morning Show revolves around the world of the morning news. Season 1, which reflected the real-life MeToo scandal, season two will be in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the production underway after Hollywood shut down filming due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in March, the premiere date is yet to be revealed.
Potentially risking their careers, Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger with Aniston and Witherspoon exposing the toxic environment of the fictional network.
The show unravels the involvement of Mitch (Carell) in the sexual assault of a staffer and the cover-up over it. The season ended with the network cutting the show’s feed.
Quoting the second season, Ehrin states, “It’s like a huge building fell on everybody, and it is about escaping from the wreckage”. Ehrin is the showrunner and executive producer of the show.
Also, exec produced by Micheal Ellenberg, through Media Res, which also serves as the studio behind the show, along with Aniston and Kristin Hahn through Echo Films, Witherspoon, and Lauren Neustadter through Hello Sunshine and Mimi Leder, who returns to direct several episodes for season two.
Minhaj further holds several upcoming projects.
