Mercedes AMG G 63: The Brute unleashed

Even an off-roader must have some degree of craziness to purchase this beast. The new Mercedes AMG G63 lights up the eyes of mean machine lovers with revs straight from the bowels of hell. Available in various vibrant colors, the ‘G wagon’ has been the choice vehicle for militaries and personalities since a long time. And now the AMG variant has raised the status of the G class.

Looking like the muscular cast of Baahubali, this beast has a boxy look but more important than the design is its character which sends chills down the spine. The G63 is a Geländwagen or German Cross Country Vehicle. It is box shaped from all directions and comes with vintage roof gutters, bull bars and gun sounding locks for the door. The G63 is a perfect amalgamation of vintage design and technology.

the G63 comes with all the necessary equipment like paddle shifters, climate control, Harman Kardon surround system, rear parking camera, rubber mats, cross-stitched leather seats and automatic headlamps and wipers.

The g63’s engine destroys everything in its path nonchalantly and with a top speed of 210 kmph, it feels like the Hulk is charging down the road. The 5.5 liter bitturbo V8 engine roars 552 PS of power at a relatively moderate 5,500 rpm with a booming 760 Nm of torque between 2000 to 5000 rpm. the 7-speed AMG speedshift automatic gearbox is a bit slow but rovides ample power to the four 275 mm wide contact patches. Like any Mercedes vehicle, the G63 has comfort, sport and manual driving modes that alter the shift and throttle settings as per the type of drive desired.

With a on-road price expected to be around 2.5 crores which does not include any extras, the price is as high as its character and this price will break the hearts and piggy banks of many. However, the petrol is satisfactory and negates the need to go for the 97 octane fuel. On paper, the combined mileage figure of 7.25 kmpl, but practically, it gives around 4-5 kmpl. One distinct advantage is that the G has a humongous 96 liter fuel tank which gives a good 400-450 km range.
