Over 10,000 farmers across the states marched to New Delhi towards the parliament on Friday, demanding loan waivers and lucrative prices for crops. The farmers march comes ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha election, making Prime Minister Narendra Modi to face challenges.

Swaraj Abhiyan Party member Avik Saha said that about more than 50,000 people came ahead representing its 200 farmer groups, marching towards the parliament.

A police reported that over 1,800 policemen were ordered to position during the march protest by farmers that passes through the Centre. Farmers are protesting because of the failure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise of profit of 50 percent over the production cost.

As general election is due in 2019, Congress party also enhanced the protest by enchanting Modi’s failure of generating employment and rising social problem and tensions.

A farmer from the northeast state of Punjab, Darshan pal said, “The calculation of support price that the government fixes is erratic and erroneous,” adding, “The government should include actual rent of land, interest on capital invested and skilled labor rate while calculating the cost of cultivation of various crops.”

The protest aimed at a special session in the parliament over the issue of crop support prices, crop loan national-wide waiver and many agricultural inputs.

Raju Shetty, member of parliament who along with farmers joined the protest, said that among 10,000 farmers, around 2,000 farmers carried the march protest from different regions of the country to the parliament in New Delhi.
