Opposition Venezuelan leader Juan Guaido has on Friday called for the “largest march in the history”, calling on his supporters to take it to the streets on May 1 to protest to ratchet up pressure on legitimate and embattled Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to resign.
Guaido, who declared himself as self-proclaimed interim president of Venezuela in January, has invoked the constitution over the basis that Maduro’s re-election in 2018 was illegitimate.
While addressing a gathering at a plaza in eastern Caracas, setting up a date for the history’s largest march, on May 1 – International Workers’ Day, Guaido said, “They will need to listen to the people saying: enough,” according to Reuters news reports.
He added, “We call on all the people to join in the largest march in the history of Venezuela to demand the end to the usurpation so this tragedy can end.”
However, Guaido did not specify the final venue for the mass May 1 demonstration, but some attendees suggest to march and protest on the Miraflores presidential palace.

Venezuelan vice president Delci Rodriguez has said on Monday the United States, Colombia and Brazil were preparing a military intervention into Venezuela. The VP has also urged the international community to pay attention to these nation’s “criminal plan”.
Rodriguez was quoted as saying, “The international community and its institutions for protecting legitimacy around the world should know that a criminal plan is in the works to stage a military attack on Venezuela.”

Maduro is channeling cash flow from its oil sales through Russia’s state-run energy giant Rosneft firm, seeking to evade the US sanctions imposed on Venezuela by the US, as per the reports citing documents and sources.

US secretary of state Mike Pompeo has said on Sunday the US will make efforts with the use of all political and economic tools to hold Maduro accountable for Venezuela’s economic and politic crisis, and make clear to Russia and China that they will have to pay a price for backing Maduro. Pompeo made this remark in Cucuta, a border city of Colombia.
