Afghanistan has on Sunday announced the government will send a team of a high-level delegation to Qatar for the latest round of Afghan peace talks with the Taliban.

According to ANI news reports, special presidential envoy, Mohammad Umer Daudzai, was quoted as saying, “An inclusive official delegation will attend the Qatar meeting representing Afghanistan.”

However, the Taliban is due to reach for responses to the development. So far, the Taliban has reiterated its refusal to hold talks with the Afghan government calling it a puppet of the United States.

Kabul’s announcement has come in the midst of Zalmay Khalilzad’s, the US special representative for Afghan reconciliation, foreign tours over the Afghan peace process and to renew talks between the Taliban and Kabul.

It has also come after several rounds of peace talks held between the Taliban and the US in Doha, Qatar. The on-going negotiation is aimed at putting an end to the 17-year-old conflict in Afghanistan.

However, no dates were yet finalized for the Taliban-Afghan peace talks, which is likely slated to take place later this month. Afghan CEO Abdullah Abdullah has said the Taliban was an “obstacle” in the path of reaching peace in Afghanistan.

Russian had hosted the Afghan peace process conference in February, but the Afghan’s members were not invited to the meet.
