Washington, May 14: Attorney-General William Barr has on Monday appointed a top United States attorney in Connecticut to investigate the origins of the probe into Russia collusion during 2016 presidential elections.

Two officials familiar with the matter stated the US attorney in Connecticut, John H. Durham, has been appointed by Barr to examine the investigation’s origins. However, there was no official announcement of confirmation over Durham’s appointment. Reportedly, this development will mark the third public probe into the matter, according to ANI news reports.

Meanwhile, US department of justice inspector general Michael E Horowitz was investigating the use of shreds of information and use of wiretaps by investigators during a probe. Also, Horowitz was looking at possible political bias against US president Donald Trump.

Additionally, the US attorney in Utah, John W. Huber, has been lately reviewing the aspects of the probe. His findings are due to be revealed yet.

Republicans had also conducted their personal inquiries into the Russian conclusion ‘probe’ when they used to hold control over the House of Representatives, according to the newspaper reports.

The US president had on 2017 appointed Durham and has been serving as a justice department lawyer since 1982. Durham has been always known for conducting special probe under the administration of both the parties – Democrats and Republicans.

House Republicans and Trump have long pressed the justice department to appoint an official to probe the formation of the Russian investigation.
