Kabul, Sep 11: US Embassy in Afghanistan was on Wednesday hit with a powerful blast on the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attack, however, no reports of casualties and destruction were reported by the officials.

According to news reports, a few hours post-midnight, central Kabul was found under a plume of smoke with sirens ringing. Employees in the embassy heard the report over the loudspeaker: “An explosion caused by a rocket has occurred on compound.”

Afghanistan officials did not offer any immediate comment. Nevertheless, the NATO mission nearby reported no personnel had been wounded by the blast.

The attack marked the first time after President Donald Trump withdrew America from US-Taliban peace negotiations over the weekend as the insurgent group claimed the responsibility of the Kabul attack.

Last week, two suicide bombing car exploded in Kabul, killing two NATO members and several civilians. Trump cited the death of an American official in the Kabul blast as a reason for abruptly calling off the Afghan Peace Process.
