London, August 28: Prime Minister Boris Johnson led government has asked the Queen on Wednesday to suspend the British parliament, a few weeks ahead of the Brexit deadline.

According to BBC news reports, Johnson said Queen will deliver the speech after the suspension on October 14 in order to outline his “very exciting agenda”.

John Bercow, the speaker of the UK house of commons, termed it as a “constitutional outrage”, adding, “However it is dressed up, it is blindingly obvious that the purpose of [suspending Parliament] now would be to stop [MPs] debating Brexit and performing its duty in shaping a course for the country.”

Senior Tory backbencher Dominic Grieve also termed the move “an outrageous act” and cautioned it could emerge as a no-confident vote for Johnson, saying, “This government will come down”.

Though, Boris said the suggestion of suspension encouraged by a desirable force through the no-deal Brexit were “completely untrue”.

He claimed he didn’t want to wait until “before getting on with our plans to take this country forward”, and further insisted there would be “ample time” for the MPs to work debate over the UK’s departure from the European Union (EU).

“We need new legislation. We’ve got to be bringing forward new and important bills and that’s why we are going to have a Queen’s Speech,” he added.

The idea of suspending parliament, termed as prorogation, has already caused controversies with critics claiming the move would halt MPs being able to play their vital democratic part in the total of Brexit process.
