London, August 29: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson-led government on Thursday challenged the Brexit opponents in the UK parliament to break down the government or turn the law if they seek to counter Britain’s departure from the European Union (EU).

Yet attempting pursuing boldest move after assuming office as UK prime minister last month, Jonhson angered opponents of a no-deal Brexit by asking the Queen on Wednesday to suspend the parliament for almost 30 days.

A Brexit supporter, Jacob Rees-Mogg – in charge of managing parliamentary working, calling on the Brexit opponents, dared them to do their worst, according to Reuters.

“All these people who are wailing and gnashing of teeth know that there are two ways of doing what they want to do,” Rees-Mogg told the BBC.

“One, is to change the government and the other is to change the law. If they do either of those that will then have an effect.

“If they don’t have either the courage or the gumption to do either of those then we will leave on the 31st of October in accordance with the referendum result.”

Johnson said Queen will deliver the speech after the suspension on October 14 in order to outline his “very exciting agenda”.

John Bercow, the speaker of the UK house of commons, termed it as a “constitutional outrage”, adding, “However it is dressed up, it is blindingly obvious that the purpose of [suspending Parliament] now would be to stop [MPs] debating Brexit and performing its duty in shaping a course for the country.”

Senior Tory backbencher Dominic Grieve also termed the move “an outrageous act” and cautioned it could emerge as a no-confident vote for Johnson, saying, “This government will come down”.

Johnson claimed he didn’t want to wait until “before getting on with our plans to take this country forward”, and further insisted there would be “ample time” for the MPs to work debate over the UK’s departure from the European Union (EU).
