Beijing, July 24: China has on Tuesday said the United States was to be blamed for continuous violent chaos in Hong Kong, warning against interference, following a month-long protest, including harsh/bloody clashes over the weekend, against a controversial extradition bill that would permit suspects in the city to be sent to mainland China for court prosecution.

Addressing a daily media briefing on Tuesday, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said, “We can see that US officials are even behind such incidents,” while giving reference to the violent chaos related to a series of demonstrations spearheaded by pro-democratic activists against proposed extradition law.

“So can the officials tell the world what role did they play and what are their aims? Hua asked.

Groups of men, whose opposition politicians suspect were linked to Hong Kong criminal gangs, on Sunday attacked a few pro-democracy protesters, after marchers vandalized China’s main office in the territory.

When asked about the condemnation of violence by the US and the city’s former colonial ruler Britain, Hua said Beijing would not at all tolerate any such interference, according to Dawn news reports.

“The US should know one thing, that Hong Kong is China’s Hong Kong, and we do not allow any foreign interference,” she said.

In a tweet on Monday, US President Donald Trump said: “We advise the US to withdraw their black hands.” Trump said he believed Xi Jinping, the Chinese president, has acted responsibly with the situation and protesters that has plunged Hong Kong.

China rejected interfering in Hong Kong issue, warning the violent mass protests over the proposed controversial legislation permitting extraditions to Beijing were “undisguised challenge” to under a “one country, two systems” formula.
