New Delhi, May 29: China and India are currently in touch to finalize the date and venue for the second informal meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in New Delhi scheduled to take place later this year, according to the ministry of external affairs (MEA).

In an official statement on Wednesday, the MEA said, “The two sides are in touch, through diplomatic channels, to finalize the date and venue for the meeting. Details about the visit will be announced in due course after the details are finalized.”

According to ANI news reports, during the very-first informal meet between the two powerful leaders was held last year in April in the Chinese province of Wuhan, during which PM Modi extended an invitation to Xi to visit India in 2019 to address the next informal summit, the statement added.

The Indian prime minister has defined the summit as a “milestone” in India-China bilateral relations, while the Chinese president called it as a “successful” meet. Both leaders had discussed an entire gamut of bilateral ties between two neighbours.

While speaking at Wuhan, Narendra Modi had laid hopes “such informal summit” would “become a tradition between the two countries”.

Modi had added saying, “I’ll be happy if, in 2019, we can have such an informal summit in India.”
