China has on Monday emphasized “responsible and serious discussions” as a part of diplomacy ahead of the United Nations security council’s sanctions committee’s final step regarding a fresh resolution for blacklisting Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar.

According to Dawn news reports, during a media briefing in Beijing, while responding to the country’s position on the issue, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said, “China will continue to communicate and work with relevant parties in a responsible manner so as to properly resolve this matter. Only by making a decision through responsible and serious discussions can we resolve the issue in a sustainable manner.”

In past, China has thrice blocked on the technical grounds bids for designation of JeM chief Azhar as a “terrorist” by the UN body. France, the United Kingdom and the United States have once again moved UN to designate Azhar as a terrorist after he claimed a suicide bombing attack – Pulwama terror attack – in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14, which claimed the lives of 44 CRPF personnel.

The resolution, moved on February 28 over Azhar, has to be taken up by March 13 by the 1267 UN sanctions committee.

Kang said, “In our exchanges of views on the regional situation, the security issue features in our discussion with Indian and Pakistan. We have had extensive and in-depth talks with both sides.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a telephonic conversation with US national security adviser John Bolton, and shared with his  “Pakistan’s perspective on the recent regional developments”.
