China and the United States will hold high-level trade talks – eighth round of talks – on March 28 and 29 in Beijing, the ministry of commerce spokesperson has said on Thursday. He said both countries also agreed to hold ninth round of trade talks in Washington DC in April.

According to ANI news reports, the spokesperson was quoted by Xinhua as saying American trade representative Robert Lighthizer and treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin, both were invited to pay a visit to China for economic and trade consultations.

While addressing a media conference, spokesperson Gao Feng said Chinese vice premier Liu He was also invited by the USA to pay a visit Washington DC to attend the ninth round of trade talks in early April.

Gao has stressed that the two sides have held several rounds of telephonic conversation over trade and economic issues and has agreed over holding the eighth and ninth round of trade talks in two consecutive months.

CNN has quoted Gao as saying Lighthizer and Mnuchin will travel to Beijing for high-level trade discussions, aimed at finalizing a trade deal between the two nations.

During a joint media conference with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday in Beijing, US President Donald Trump stated: “China’s going very well. China talks going very well.”

China and US are hoping to reach a final trade deal which will be inked during a summit at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, in April, Gao added.
