Beijing, June 3: China has on Monday cautioned academics and students about risks related to studying in the United States, pointing out limit duration limits of visas refusals and visas, in the midst of trade war, including other frictions between Beijing and Washington.

Relations between the two sides have been soared because of their trade spat, tensions over the disputed South China Sea, the US backing Taiwan, US sanction over Chinese technology giant Huawei company.

China’s state-run television has cited the ministry of education as saying recently students who applied seeking to study in the USA had been encountered with problems related to the duration limit of their visas and an increase in visa refusals, according to Economic Times news reports.

“This has affected Chinese students going to study in the United States or smoothly completing their studies,” state television said. “The education ministry reminds students and academics of the need to strengthen risk assessment before studying abroad, enhance prevention awareness, and make corresponding preparations.”

Chinese newspaper the Global Times editor Hu Xijin has linked the studying warning to recent discrimination against students. “This warning is a response to recent series of discriminatory measures the U.S. took against Chinese students and can also be seen as a response to the U.S.-initiated trade war,” Hu wrote on his Twitter handle.

Last year, the Chinese embassy in Washington DC has issued a security warning to China’s nationals visiting the US, cautioning them to be careful regarding issues such as expensive medical bills, seizures, and searches by customs agent, public shooting and robberies threats.

Last month, a group of President Donald Trump’s Republicans in the Congress introduced a bill, intended to prevent anyone employed or sponsored by the Chinese military from receiving student or research visas to the US.
