The United States military is expected to conduct its first missile drill this year around the Okinawa island of Japan, according to news reported on Thursday, as Washington was seeking to counter China’s increasing self-assertive.

According to news reports, the US military has told Japan that it is planning to deploy a surface-to-ship missiles in Okinawa Island this year for first drill by key ally of Japan.

The reports said the drill would involve a mobile rocket launcher, a counter-measure, in order to potentially attacks from China’s surface-to-sea ballistic missiles.

Chinese warship have sailed through waters near the Japan’s Okinawa Island, where the majority of the US troops are based in Japan.

According to experts, the Chinese warship sail is a part of the plan to organize controls of water within “first island chain”, linking Okinawa, the Philippines and Taiwan.

China’s military build-up has affected Asian neighbours, with defence chief of Japan saying that China had been “unilaterally escalating” its military exercises in last year. However, Beijing insisted that the movement are signs of self defence.

However, despite of its rapid military build-up and rivalry, China and US remains each other’s largest trading partners and China holds largest of the US national debt.
