Supreme court of Pakistan has on Tuesday agreed to release jailed ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on bail over the request on grounds of medical treatment for six weeks but also said the court would not allow the prime minister to leave the country.

According to Reuters news reports, chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has said that the jail sentence for Sharif would be suspended from the date of his release for six months.

While reading out the orders, Khosa said, “In these six weeks he shall not be allowed to leave Pakistan,” further adding that the court expects Sharif to surrender voluntarily at the end of his bail term.

Three-time PM post holding Sharif, who has been disqualified from holding his political office for life, has been suffering from kidney problems and a heart condition, and since has been admitted to a hospital.

However, Sharif’s lawyer has previously appealed the court last month for a bail release on grounds of medical problems, but however, the Supreme court has dismissed the appeal.

The court has charged Sharif for not offering part of an amount drawn from his son’s company, and later he was convicted in two separate cases relating to failing to disclose the sources of income.
