Egyptian authority unveiled an ancient tomb on Saturday, where human-made sarcophagi and funerary were founded in Al-Assasif’s Theban Necropolis in the southern city of Luxor.
Al-Assasif is the funeral site of senior officials and nobles, which is likely situated in-between the royal tombs at the valley of the king and the valley of queen.
Some 1,000 miniature funerary figurines known as “Ushabits”-made of faience, wood and clay, with sarcophagi and statues, and five coloured masks were discovered. The authority revealed that the tomb is since the time of Middle Kingdom, and the mummification shrine, which belonged to “Thaw-Irkhet-If”
There were two coffins, one of it was founded early this month by a French-led mission and was examined by Egyptian antiquities officials.
Minister of Antiquities Khaled Al Anani said, “One sarcophagus was rishi-style, which dates back to the 17th dynasty, while the other sarcophagus was from the 18th dynasty,” adding, “The two tombs were present with their mummies inside.”
Over five months of period, the three-hundred cubic metre rubble were removed in order to uncover the tomb, which contained few mesmerizing and colourful paintings of the owner and his family.
