The United States President Donald Trump has agreed on Friday to temporarily reopen the government, signed a three-week continuing resolution, without receiving any funds for his US-Mexico border wall demand and to fund the shuttered federal departments at the current level through February 15. The US government officially reopened on Friday’s night after Trump signed legislation passed by the US Congress.

According to The Washington Post news reports, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “We expect the continuing resolution to clear the House and be signed by the president today.”

Though, it was still unclear when Trump would sign the legislation, although he was expected to sign it much earlier the day. Also, the unpaid-employees would not be funded much quickly… it was entirely unclear yet.

Trump said federal workers will get back paid “quickly as soon as possible”. He has signed legislation which will pay those federal employees who were furloughed or forced to work without any pay.

A senior administration official said, “Recognizing the urgency of getting federal employees paid quickly, the administration is taking steps to ensure they receive pay as soon as possible. Since specific payroll issues vary by agency, employees can find more information about paycheck details by reaching out to their agency.”

At the conclusion of his length remarks over the wall and national security, Trump said, “Let me be very clear: We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier. If we don’t get a fair deal from Congress, the government will either shut down on February 15th, again, or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the Constitution of the United States to address this emergency.”

However, the Democratic leaders said they hoped that Trump had learned few lessons from the conclusion of the first major struggle into Washington’s new power structure, with Democrats under control of Republicans and the House of Representatives but still running the White House and the Senate.

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer said, “No one should ever underestimate the speaker, as Donald Trump has learned.”

He added: “Hopefully it means a lesson learned for the White House and for many of our Republican colleagues. Shutting down the government over a policy difference is self-defeating, it accomplishes nothing but pain and suffering for the country, and incurs an enormous political cost to the party shutting it down.”

The next scheduled paycheck for most of the federal employees is February 8, the latest they would receive the first paycheck since the new year 2019.
