EU won’t reopen, hopes Theresa May offers ‘realistic suggestions’ to Brexit deal: EC’ Donald Tusk

The European Council president on Wednesday said he hoped that British Prime Minister Theresa May would come up with “realistic suggestions” on Thursday, to Brussels over how to break an impasse on Brexit deal as the European Union would not reopen the Brexit deal now.

According to Reuters news reports, while speaking at a joint news conference with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, Donald Tusk reiterated the bloc’s stance that the Irish backstop in the withdrawal agreement had to remain same and stay.

Tusk said, “I’ve been wondering what that special place in hell looks like, for those who promoted Brexit, without even a sketch of a plan how to carry it out safely.”

Irish PM Varadkar said May’s Bexit deal, which was rejected by the UK parliament, was “the best possible”. He added saying that Britain’s current political instability was also proof of why the Irish backstop was needed.

Tusk said he no longer believed that there was any way to stop Britain leaving the EU, the bloc, due to the “pro-Brexit stance” of both PMs and leaders of the opposition, Jeremy Corbyn.

While most of the people in Britain and around Europe hoped that Britain might stay, Tusk said he had also concluded that there has been now “no political force and no effective leadership” for those demanding to remain in the bloc, according to reports.
