Hassan Rouhani delivers speech at UN sumit

The European Union has warned Iran of pulling out from the Iran Nuclear Deal if it breaches the conditions of the deal. The deal was negotiated over two years under which the member countries would invest in Iran and in return it would scale back in its nuclear operations.

Iran which has been under pressure following the sanctions imposed on it by the United States after it decided to withdraw from the agreement. Iran had earlier breached the terms of the agreement this year. the International Atomic Energy Association confirmed the breach.

The European Union has been concerned regarding the hostile relations between Iran and the United States. When the US pulled out of the deal, the EU has been finding means to side-step the US sanctions and has floated the idea of creating a separate legal entity to conduct its financial operations in Iran.

Yet, the threat of secondary sanctions has been grave for the EU. France, Germany and the UK who are both the Permanent Members of the United Nations and the European Union have been keeping a close watch at the situation.

The deal had an idea to ensure that Iran’s nuclear aspirations are slowed down fearing the nature of the nuclear programme, the signatories had agreed to place certain limitations on it.

Since the withdrawal, Iran has already breached three commitments. This would be the fourth time that it will breach its commitment by increasing its stockpile of enriched Uranium from 300 kgs and would breach the enrichment limit which is set under the agreement.

The sanctions which are placed have led to escalated tensions in the Middle-East as the sudden attacks on the oil industry has raised eyebrows. The recent airstrike on Saudi Oil facilities has led to the Western powers having a watchful eye on the situation. While the US has come out and asked the EU to withdraw from the deal.

Iran has requested the Union to fulfil its commitment as per the agreement. The recent instability in the Middle-East has been a cause of concern for the EU as it is trying to rethink its strategy. This has also sent a sense of uncertainty to the US strategic allies in the region.
