Japan court has granted bail to former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn on Tuesday, Tokyo’s local media reported. According to reports, the former chairman could be released as early as Tuesday. Ghosn’s head bail reportedly has been set at nearly $9 million.

According to Sputnik news reports, Carlos Ghosn has been detained in Tokyo over allegations of financial misconduct, as the prosecutors have accused Ghosn of underreporting his yearly income and transferring his personal trading losses to Nissan worth an estimated $16 million in 2008.

Former chairman has been in a custody at a detention centre in Japan’s capital Tokyo since his initial detention which took place on November 19.

Ghosn was indicted over aggravated breach of trust for the temporary transaction of his personal investment losses to Nissan in 2008, and for under-reporting his income for three years through March 2018. Though, Carlos Ghosn denied all the charges and allegations against him.

However, at his court trial last week, Ghosn told the court, “Your honour, I am innocent of the accusations against me.” Ghosn defended himself with saying “I am wrongfully accused”.

Nissan’s board of directors dismissed Ghosn as chairman shortly after his arrest in November. French President Emmanuel Macron, when addressing the situation, reportedly urged Tokyo to agree to a merger between Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co.
