The relatively lax environment of the Dublin International Airport was disturbed in the early hours of the morning of the 1st of June, when all the travellers at Terminal 1 were subjected to unforeseen evacuation commands by the PA system within the walls. The malfunctioning PA system of this terminal kept blaring warning sounds and a recorded evacuation message on loop for about 20 minutes, inflicting a lot of chaos among the passengers, until the matter was brought under control.
At around 6:30 am in the morning, many videos started surfacing on Twitter of the PA system broadcasting the staged message of “Attention please. We are responding to an alarm activation. Please evacuate this area immediately and follow the directions of airport staff” in front of all the dumbstruck passengers in the area. However, fire marshals and a team of airport police arrived near gate 100 soon after to assure all the citizens of their safety, stating that the evacuation procedure had merely been triggered by a systematic fault which resulted in the PA system getting stuck on its evacuation mode. No fire or any other possible cause of evacuation had been detected by the authorities after a thorough search. The PA system, however, took at least 20 more minutes to stop displaying the ominous evacuation message on LED.
Siobhán Moore, a spokeswoman from the DAA, announced that Dublin Airport personnel had been dispatched to secure the safety of the passengers at the earliest notice; even the Twitter team of the airport had been briefed to maintain order and assurance among the disturbed travellers. Moore also confirmed that no flights had been delayed due to the disturbance at the Terminal, and all the passengers had been able to board their flights peacefully.
