Hong Kong, August 12: All flights in and out of the Hong Kong international airport has been suspended by the city’s authorities on Monday due to the pro-democracy sit-in protest at its terminal against a controversial extradition bill that would allow suspects in the territory to be sent to mainland China for court prosecution.

According to airport authorities, they were cancelling arriving and departing planes at one of the globe’s busiest trave hubs after Hong Kong protesters entered the terminal and halls to stage a mass demonstration, Al-Jazeera reported.

In an official statement, the airport authority said, “Other than the departure flights that have completed the check-in process and the arrival flights that are already heading to Hong Kong, all other flights have been cancelled for the rest of today.”

The United States has on last Thursday cautioned its residents to “exercise increased caution” when venturing out to Hong Kong, as protesters declared three days of new mass demonstrations at the territory’s airport.

The financial center has been shaken by two months of turmoil, at first activated by opposition to an arranged and controversial extradition law that would allow suspects in the city to be sent to mainland China for court prosecution.

The exhibits have developed into a more extensive development for democratic reform that has truly upset the city with once in a while savage challenges, according to Dawn news reports.
