Islamabad, July 25: Dr. Mohammad Faisal, Pakistan foreign office (FO) spokesperson, said on Thursday the relations between the United States and Pakistan “have returned to normal” following the maiden visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to Washington DC for talks with President Donald Trump.

Hours after Khan arrived in Islamabad international airport on Thursday after three-day US visit, Faisal said: “Relations between Pakistan and the US have been reestablished.”

During a weekly media briefing, he added, “Even the American [government] did not use ‘do more’,” according to Dawn news reports.

Responding to a query related to Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) key role in capturing Osama bin Laden by America, Faisal said: “Pakistan had provided initial information about Osama bin Laden to the US.”

“I will neither confirm nor deny if the ISI provided any assistance to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in [finding] Osama bin Laden,” he added.

Addressing an interview with Fox News earlier this week, Khan has said: “It was the ISI which gave the information which led to the location of Osama bin Laden. If you ask CIA, it was the ISI which gave the initial location through the phone connection.”

In a media conference today, Faisal also stated Trump had accepted the prime minister’s invitation to pay an official visit to Islamabad.

The FO spokesperson further added Washington, as well as remaining of the world has also acknowledged Pakistan’s vital role as a mediator in the ongoing Afghan peace efforts.

“The only way forward is to [solve issues] through talks. I wish India would understand this; maybe it will if Trump mediates,” Faisal said.

He criticized the atrocities by the Indian armed forces in the occupied Kashmir, saying New Delhi “will have to take a mature approach to [resolve] the dispute”.
