French officials on Thursday, said that it will keep its troop in Syria for now as Islamic state militants have not yet been wiped out from Syria and still continues to be a threat to French interests.

France is one of the leading member of the United States-led coalition, who are fighting militants in Iraq and Syria and has at least 1,000 troops with special forces based in the northern Syria, deployed alongside Arab forces and local Kurdish.

According to news reports, French diplomat on Wednesday said that the decision by US President Donald Trump to withdraw its 2,000 US troops from the north of the country Syria has taken Paris by a surprise. The US officials simplify their decision with a saying that Islamic state has been now entirely defeated.

According to news reports, Europe minister Nathalie Loiseau, during an interview, said, “It shows that we can have different priorities and that we must count on ourselves first.” Loiseau further said, “For now, of course, we are staying in Syria because the fight against Islamic State is essential.”

During recent years, France became much sensitive to the Islamic state threat after it attacked France. During that time, hundreds of French citizens have joined the Islamic state in Syria.

French defense minister Florence Parly has acknowledged on Twitter that about 90 percent of the militant group has been removed and it had been now weakened, but however, the battle was not yet over.

Parly said, “Islamic State has not been wiped from the map nor have its roots. The last pockets of this terrorist organization must be defeated militarily once and for all.”

About 1,100 troops are operating in Syria and Iraq providing heavy artillery support, training and logistics as well fighter jets too to strike targets.
