French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said on Monday that France is planning to introduce new legislation in order to toughen the sanctions over undeclared protests, in a response to a violent demonstration by “yellow vest” protester across the city.

According to news reported by Reuters, French prime minister said, “We need to preserve the right to demonstrate in France and we must sanction those who break the law.”

Philippe further stated: “That’s why the government favours updating the law in order to sanction those who do not respect this obligation to declare protests, those who take part in undeclared protests, those who arrive at protests with balaclavas.”

Philippe’s comment came after the country has on Saturday, set barricades on upmarket Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris with underscoring how the protests can cost against the high living.

Philippe said the French government could implement new legislation on the existing law against football watchers, where individuals could be barred from entering the stadium. He asserted that the implementation of the new law could take place as soon as February.

Philippe termed the rioters and protesters as thugs or the “casseurs”, who have violated Paris and brought severe disturbance into the city and major other cities in France, where shops have been looted with vandalizing banks forced to pay for the damages done by the “yellow vest” protesters.

However, protesters’ demonstration was on the ground with peace but went escalated on Saturday afternoon, when protesters were seen throwing missiles at police forces blocking bridges over the Seine.
