Garryvoe, Ireland, Sep 13: Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has on Friday said the differences between the European Union (EU) and Britain over Brexit deal is “very wide”.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson says the border backstop must be supplanted to reach any arrangement. The EU says any substitution must have a similar impact, thus far London has offered no proposition that are sufficient.

“We always said we are willing to explore alternative arrangements … But so far I think it is fair to say that what we are seeing falls very far short of what we need,” Varadkar told Ireland’s RTE radio in an interview. “The gap is very wide,” he said, according to Reuters.

Northern Ireland’s biggest ideological group, whose 10 individuals from parliament back Johnson’s minority government, additionally proposed an arrangement was not close, stating it would not give the British locale a chance to be compelled to acknowledge EU guidelines after Brexit.

“We will not accept a Northern Ireland-only backstop… It won’t be a backstop by any other name either. We will not be accepting separate arrangements that cut us off from UK,” Democratic Unionist Party Brexit spokesman Sammy Wilson told BBC Radio Ulster.

He proposed the Northern Ireland get together would require a compelling veto of any EU guidelines, only endorsing measures “if we believe it is to the advantage of industry in Northern Ireland”.

Johnson has said on Tuesday “there is a way” of reaching a fresh Brexit deal, as he attempted to defend his decision to suspend UK parliament for five weeks.

Johnson said “loads of people” seeks an agreement, but he was ready to withdraw the United Kingdom (UK) from the EU without any Brexit deal if “absolutely necessary”, according to BBC.

Parliament is slated to not resume until 14 October, at least three days ahead of a crucial Brexit conference of bloc leaders.
