Germany will not bar China’ Huawei from participating in future 5G development

The German government will not impose a ban on China’s giant telecom product maker Huawei from participating in future 5G infrastructure’ development, openly resisting a United States-led effort against the giant company.

Germany had been stuck between whether to ban Huawei or not from participating in the development of future 5G infrastructure after Washington along with some of its allies barred Huawei from their next-generation network development.

According to Sputnik news reports, during a televised interview on Wednesday, German economy minister Peter Altmaier said, “No, we will not want to exclude any company,” when asked if Germany is planning imposing ban on Huawei from the upcoming 5th generation auction.

Earlier, Germany’s Federal Network agency published some tougher security guidelines for Huawei, requiring 5G networks’ suppliers to be “trustworthy”.

The guidelines also highlight the network need to use components from several different manufacturers; the German’s agency said these guidelines would be applied to all vendors equally.

This comes following months of discussions over whether Huawei should be involved in Germany’s future 5G infrastructure following allegations of espionage brought by the United States and its allies such as Japan and Australia.

On Thursday, Huawei filed a lawsuit against the US, claiming that the US ban over federal agencies buying its equipment was illegal and unconstitutional.
