Ashraf Ghani

Kabul, August 22: Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has on Wednesday met with European General Tod D. Wolters, the NATO’s 19th supreme allied commander, during which he cautioned pursuing any “wrong policy” for the peace process in the region will result in unpleasant consequences for the war-ravaged nation.

Ghani said security and peace in the United States and Afghanistan are struggled with threats, calling for a need to push the Afghan peace process forward with alerts, according to an official statement issued by the presidential palace.

Ghani was quoted by the statement as saying the Taliban, the insurgent group in Afghanistan, are still not willing to adopting peace and adhering ceasefire rules and that the insurgent organization should let the nation know about their ties with drugs, Pakistan, Daesh, al-Qaida and several other globally recognized terror outfits, according to TOLO news agency reports.

Ghani’s remark comes at a time when US special representative for Afghan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad embarked on an official trip on the Afghan peace process, in which he will launch his negotiations with the Taliban.
