Hong Kong, August 30: Joshua Wong, prominent pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong, has been arrested by the police, as per the statement issued by his co-founded political party.

According to BBC news reports, The Demosisto party has said the police “forcefully pushed” Wong “into a private minivan on the street” while he was walking straight to a railway station at around 7:30 local time on Thursday (23:30 GMT).

Wong was then taken to the police headquarter in Wan Chai, the party said. Demosisto also said he faces three charges now but was unclear what charges they are. Moreover, the police have yet not commented on the event.

The arrest comes a day before a planned mass rally, which has yet not received any approval from police.

Independence campaigner Andy Chan has also said he was too arrested by police while boarding a flight to Japan from Hong Kong on Thursday night.

He said police arrested him on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and rioting, as per the local outlet HKFP.

On Wednesday, police said they had detained at least 900 individuals yet since the pro-democracy protest kicked off in early June against a controversial extradition bill that would allow suspects in Hong Kong to be sent to mainland China for court prosecution.
