The financial hub of Asia has been reeling with months of protests. Ever since July the city of Hong Kong has come out against the government’s decision to table a controversial extradition bill. Despite the controversial bill now formally withdrawn by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, the protestors still want all five of their demands to be met which includes the resignation of the Chief Executive.

On Sunday, the Pro-Democratic protestors had taken to the streets and come out to protest against the government. The protestors had another clash with the Hong Kong Police and this time managed to vandalize a Mass Transit Railway station.

Protestors also rallied peacefully in front of the US Consulate seeking the intervention of President Donald Trump. The president was also asked to restore democracy in the china controlled Special Autonomous Region of Hong Kong.

China has been critical of the protests and has warned the international community about any possible intervention in the city. This was reiterated by the government in Hong Kong warning of any foreign intervention in the internal matters of the city.

On Monday, after days of unrest school children came together in solidarity and formed human chains while on their way to school. This comes just after several school students decided to boycott their classes to show their support towards the protest. They also rallied with posters depicting the five demands of the protestors during the.

With the Asian financial hub now reeling from the economic pressure that the protests have caused, the government has to swiftly decide on its next step. The cases and allegations of police brutality during the clashes has been one big question for the government as the Chief Executive decided to refuse a request to form an independent inquiry into the matter.

The protesters have been asking for the removal of the word ‘riot’ which has been used by the government to describe the demonstrations. Along with the release of those arrested for their participation in the demonstrations and the right for the citizens of Hong Kong to choose their own leaders.
