Hong Kong, Sep 30: Following a chaotic weekend of anti-government protesters clashing with Hong Kong police, the city’s roads and metro stations re-opened on Monday.

At this weekend, police open fired rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons at pro-democratic protesters who threw petrol bombs and attempted to set fires outside the administrative office and across the central region of the financial hub.

Hong Kong is on the brink ahead of the People’s Republic foundation’s 70th anniversary of China on Tuesday, with officials wishing to avoid such chaotic scenes that could hamper the Chinese government.

A huge clean-up process was underway after protesters daubed buildings, shops and roads in Hong Kong in graffiti, smashed windows of government structures.

On Monday, the Hong Kong police also detained two prominent democratic activists, Ventus Lau, and actor Gregory Wong, for their alleged involvement in anti-government demonstrations, as per an envoy for the Civil Human Rights Front – the organizer of latest mass protest.

Hong Kongers are protesting, since the last three months, against a controversial extradition bill that would allow suspects in the city to be sent to mainland China for court prosecution.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam made a last-minute decision to commemorate the anniversary of Chinese in capital Beijing.

Security forces have covered all roads and regions around the Convention Center where the celebration is due to take place with blocking all roads. A series of strikes are expected on Monday and multiple rallies are scheduled for Tuesday.
