London [UK], July 10: British foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt hit back at United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday over his repeated attacks on British Prime Minister Theresa May over her handling of Brexit, and termed “wrong” and “disrespectful” to Trump’s comments.
In a tweet, Hunt said, “1/2 @realDonaldTrump friends speak frankly so I will: these comments are disrespectful and wrong to our Prime Minister and my country. Your diplomats give their private opinions to @SecPompeo and so do ours! You said the UK/US alliance was the greatest in history and I agree …”

While underlining the fact that diplomats must respect each other, he said Sir Kim Darroch, the UK ambassador to the US, would continue to hold his post in the office if he becomes the next prime minister of Britain.
In another tweet, the foreign secretary said, “… but allies need to treat each other with respect as @theresa_may has always done with you. Ambassadors are appointed by the UK government and if I become PM our Ambassador stays.”

Both he and his predecessor member of parliament Boris Johnson are vying to win the race to become the next PM of the UK.
The US and the UK have been at loggerhead since Darroch described the US president as “incompetent”, “inept”, and “insecure” in his secret emails which went viral after its leak into a British newspaper, according to ANI news reports.
Earlier the day, Trump has termed Darroch as a “very stupid guy” and lambasted over May’s “foolish” tackling of Brexit deal with the European Union (EU), calling it a disaster.
Trump had tweeted, “The wacky Ambassador that the U.K. foisted upon the United States is not someone we are thrilled with, a very stupid guy. He should speak to his country, and Prime Minister May, about their failed Brexit negotiation, and not be upset with my criticism of how badly it was…”
…handled. I told @theresa_may how to do that deal, but she went her own foolish way-was unable to get it done. A disaster! I don’t know the Ambassador but have been told he is a pompous fool. Tell him the USA now has the best Economy & Military anywhere in the World, by far…

Trump has on Monday said the US will no longer deal with the ambassador while claiming Darroch was never liked in America, changing his gear to May for her tackling of Brexit process, termed it a “mess”.
