New York, Sep 23: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday met Zalmay Khalilzad, US special envoy for Afghanistan, and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham on the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.

Khalilzad conveyed Khan about “how far his negotiations with the Taliban had gone, the nature of the talks and what expectations he holds in the future”, Pak foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said. “So he presented his entire analysis of the US-Taliban talks,” he added.

In an official statement, the Pakistan embassy stated Khalilzad and Khan discussed US-Pakistan joint efforts for Afghan Peace Process and Afghanistan, according to Dawn news reports.

Khan “appreciated Khalilzad’s efforts for promoting a peaceful, political settlement in Afghanistan”, according to the statement.

It further said Khan recalled Pakistan had always held that there was no military solutions to the Afghan conflict, adding, “Pakistan would, therefore, continue to support all initiatives towards achieving sustainable peace in Afghanistan and hoped for an early resumption of the peace process.”
